Nuts and Seeds; why soaked?

nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds are the powerhouse of micro nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fibre and healthy fat. Everyone must consume in limited portions.

Small quantities of nuts and seeds provide energy and nourishment. Many nutrients present in them makes it essential  for us to add them in our daily routine diet.

Along with the micro nutrients, they also contain anti-nutrition compounds such as phytates, tannins and enzyme inhibitors. These compounds are essential for their survival and protect them from damage caused by environmental germs.

However, these compounds are not good for the human body. Hence we should deactivate these compounds before consumption.

Phytates (phytic acid) have the ability to bind the minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, etc. in our body and make them unavailable for us. They may lead to micro nutrients deficiencies.

Enzyme inhibitors make them difficult to digest, causing abdominal discomfort such as bloating, hyper acidity, etc.

When we soak them, deactivation of antinutritional compounds and neutralization of enzyme inhibitors occurs. Therefore, the nutritional quality of vitamins and minerals increases.

Soaking is the best method to remove bad compounds in nuts and seeds and make all essential micro nutrients available to the body. Seeds can also be roasted and eaten as “mukhwas”.

If you have been eating dry nuts and seeds so far, stop it immediately and start soaking them before consumption. Save your money and protect your body by soaking them.

Nuts and seeds eaten without soaking will be called a waste of money as nutrients will not be gained by the body.
