What is UTI? Treatment at clinical level
A Urinary tract infection is an infection in any part of the urinary system. The urinary system includes the Kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Women are the greater risk of developing the UTI than are man. If the infection is with minor symptoms or limited then also it could be painful and annoying, sometimes in rare cases if UTI is not treated well then infection could spread to the kidneys.
Symptoms; –
1) Frequent urination
2) Burning sensation during urination
3) Lower abdominal pain
4) Bad smelling urine
5) Passing small amount of urine
6) Color of urine appears bright yellow and red in severe cases, Sign of blood in urine is shown.
7) Fever with rigor (chill)
Causes for urinary tract infection:
1)Urinary tract infection is typically occur when bacteria E. coli (Escherichia coli) enters the urinary tract through the urethra and start to spread in the bladder.
2) Because of women’s anatomy, all women are at risk of bladder infection. In women, the urethra is close to anus and urethral opening is close to bladder. If cleaning is not done properly, it makes easier for bacteria around anus to enter the urethra and to travel the travel to the bladder.
3)If GI (gastro-intestinal tract) is infected by E. coli then bacteria spread from anus to urethra.GI tract includes stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus.
4) Sometimes vaginal infection creates urinary tract infection because women’s urethra is close to vagina. Therefore, proper cleaning of vagina is necessary, maintain vaginal PH is also essential.
5) Newly married couples always tends to lead to UTI, because being unmarried there is no exposure for sex, after marriage being sexual active is common cause of UTI.
6) After Menopause, lack of estrogen level, increase risk of developing UTI.
7) Kidney stone and enlarged prostate gland can trap urine in the bladder, cause UTI.
8) Because of type 2 diabetes and other auto immune conditions supress immune system cause body’s defend system become low against germs for fight. This can increase the risk of UTI.
9) People who are under major surgery and bed-ridden from long time, catheterization is necessary for them. Using catheter increase the risk of UTI.
10) After forceps or vacuum delivery ,UTI is common, because vaginal and urethral openings are close to each other.
We have learnt causes of UTI and also knew that women are more likely to get UTI, so we should take proper care of cleaning and do prevent for UTI. ultimately “Prevention is better than cure”.
Prevention; –
1)Drink plenty of water. For more information about water, read my article, water is vital to body.
2)Studies have shown that Cranberry juice prevent UTI.
3) After urination, cleaning the genital area with water or using vaginal wash.
4) After having sex, empty your bladder soon.
5) Clean the genital area with water after sex.
6) Avoid irritating feminine product such as Deodorant spray and powder.
7) If not suits condom avoid it because condom treated with spermicide can contribute to bacterial growth.
According to ayurvedic view; –
8)Reduce the number of spices.
9)Fresh lemon juice, Pineapple juice, orange juice and coconut water are very healthy.
10) Consume large quantity of seasonal fruits such as grapes, berries, peaches, apples and from pomegranates.
11)Use curd and butter milk because live bacteria-Lactobacillus create good environment for the Gut and indirectly prevent UTI.
12) Use cinnamon in herbal teas or add in shake or smoothie because cinnamon have antibacterial property.
13) As the diuretics, Cardamom spice works extraordinary. chew cardamom every day to eliminate toxins from the body.
Treatments; –
According to modern view Doctors prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines.
